Wednesday’s One-hundred (or so) Words

“Please, Rachel,” he finally said as the silence stretched between them.

Shaking her head, she took the proffered spoon. “Don’t make anything of this,” she grated as he smiled. “I’m just hungry.”

“So am I,” he replied, his innuendo clear.

She rolled her eyes, wondering who this man was and where he’d buried the son of Reverend Hamilton. War really did change people, and she had no doubt the Jason she’d known had been left in the sands of Afghanistan.

“Don’t forget this.” He lobbed a wrapped fortune cookie onto her plate. “Maybe, it says something good.”

Beware: A fool from your past will reappear in your life.
