Mosquitoes

Okay, most of them stayed away this weekend, but one got me. I don’t know if it’s possible, but I think the bazillion mosquito bites I got at summer camp amplified my reaction to their sting. When I was visiting in Kansas last week, one of the four bites I got swelled up like a medium-sized jawbreaker. It took a few days to go away. Yesterday, I got a bite and it swelled to about an inch long. I’ve never had that happen before. I think I’m going to have to really watch it.

My husband looked up natural bug repellent online. Apparently, I can make up some sort of blend made of garlic oil and water. It keeps away mosquitoes, ticks, flies, fleas, gnats, friends and unwanted suitors. I’ll stick with regular bug repellent though it’s not much better.

The camp out went well but I froze my hiney off. We had a great fire going but fires and tents don’t go together. It was cooooooold. The ground was super hard. It was a good time with the boys though. They had fun.

My plan was to come home, SHOWER, then nap. That was derailed by a friend in need, followed by a friend from out of town, followed by a friend who broke her leg. I spent my afternoon with a one-year-old and a three-year-old. I’m whipped. I think it will be an early night.

Whew, garlic oil, huh? Yeah, I'd be able to smell you from down here if you did that.

Welcome home and invest in some hydrocortizone cream.

I have some hydrocortizone cream...I could bring you some.

I've got to say - the increased reaction is a little freaky. :(

The other possible repellants were much less distasteful. Some even sounded nice. The 1to10 lavender - witch hazel couldn't smell bad. I don't mind being near you even if you're coated in 97% DEET. Its just not as healthy for you. . .
